Eu Court of Justice agrees with our country and our breeders
“The ruling of the EU Court of Justice, that agrees with our country and with our breeders is good news for the Italian agriculture. I think it is a very important decision, especially if we consider the extensive damages to which the palter sector was subjected to in the period of bird flu.”
This declared the Minister for agricultural food and forestry policies Mario Catania, commenting ruling of the EU Court of Justice, that approved the appeal, presented by the Italian Government in March 2005 against the Eu Commission for the non adoption of exceptional measures in support of the Italian paltry sector, after the damages caused by the bird flu to the breeders in 1999-2003.
The case was raised after the passing of Regulation (CE) n.2102/2004 dated 9 December 2004, with which the Commission, after having adopted similar measures for the Netherlands and Belgium, allowed the exceptional measures also for Italy to support its market. However, these measures concerned the egg sector, without taking into consideration the Italian request for the concession of support also of the chick meat producers. The Italian Government, after having launched the procedures for appeal against the Eu Commission, saw its petition approved. The petition was based on the violation of principle of non discrimination to the detriment of Italy.
